Lotfi A. Zadeh (IRE Student member 1945, Associate, 1947, Member 1950, Senior Member 1956, and Fellow 1958) was born on 4 February 1921 in Baku, Azerbaijan, which was then known as Baku, Russia, a part of the Soviet Union.
